These Texas Roadhouse Rolls are soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet homemade dinner rolls inspired by the famous restaurant. Made with a rich yeast dough and topped with a delicious cinnamon honey butter spread, they are perfect for family gatherings or special meals.

Ingredients

For the Rolls

  • 4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar, separated
  • 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, cooled slightly, plus additional for brushing
  • 7-8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons salt

For the Cinnamon Honey Butter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In an electric mixer bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix in the lukewarm scalded milk, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, and enough flour to make a medium batter. Allow to stand until light and foamy, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Add remaining wet ingredients: Add the melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture and beat well until combined.
  3. Form the dough: Add enough flour gradually to form a soft dough. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead the dough until smooth and satiny. Prepare a large bowl by spraying with cooking spray, place the dough inside, and turn to coat with oil.
  5. First rise: Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  6. Shape the rolls: Punch the dough down and place on a lightly floured surface. Roll out into a rectangle 1/2-inch thick. Fold the rectangle in half short-way to make it about 1 inch thick and lightly roll to seal edges.
  7. Rest the dough: Let the folded dough rest for 10 minutes.
  8. Cut and second rise: Using a dough scraper, cut the dough into individual rolls and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm area for about another hour.
  9. Bake the rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  10. Brush with butter: Brush tops of warm rolls with additional melted butter.
  11. Prepare cinnamon honey butter: In a medium bowl, beat the room temperature butter for about 30 seconds until lightly whipped. Add confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon. Beat until smooth, scraping bowl sides as needed.
  12. Finish cinnamon honey butter: Continue beating on medium-high speed until mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  13. Serve: Serve the warm rolls with the cinnamon honey butter spread for a delightful treat.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is cooled to lukewarm to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Be patient with the rising times to ensure fluffy rolls.
  • The dough may require between 7 to 8 cups of flour, add gradually to get the right soft dough consistency.
  • Rolls can be shaped evenly using a dough scraper or knife.
  • For best results, serve rolls warm with cinnamon honey butter immediately.
