This recipe recreates Starbucks' famous Sweet Cream Cold Foam, a rich and velvety foam topping perfect for coffee drinks. Made with a blend of 2% milk, heavy cream, and a homemade vanilla syrup, this cold foam adds a luscious texture and sweet vanilla flavor that elevates your homemade beverages. The recipe includes instructions for making the vanilla syrup from scratch, ensuring an authentic and delightful experience in just minutes.

Ingredients

Sweet Cream Cold Foam

  • 3/4 cup 2% milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup (store-bought or homemade, see below)

Vanilla Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

Instructions

  1. Mix Sweet Cream: In a mason jar or bowl, combine 3/4 cup 2% milk, 1/4 cup heavy cream, and 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup. Shake vigorously or stir until well mixed. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator if not using immediately.
  2. Froth the Sweet Cream: Just before serving, froth the sweet cream using an electric frother, hand mixer, blender, or by shaking in a mason jar until the mixture forms a light and thick foam.
  3. Prepare Vanilla Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely and the syrup thickens slightly.
  4. Add Vanilla Bean: Pour the hot syrup into a heat-proof jar or container. Scrape the seeds from the split vanilla bean and add both seeds and pod to the syrup.
  5. Steep Syrup: Refrigerate the syrup for at least 6 hours to steep the vanilla flavor. The syrup will thicken further as it cools. For a stronger vanilla taste, keep the vanilla bean in the syrup beyond 6 hours.
  6. Store Syrup: Keep the vanilla syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will remain good for up to one month.

Notes

  • The sweet cream mixture can be prepared in advance and stored refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • Use an electric frother or hand mixer for the best and quickest foaming results.
  • If you prefer, use store-bought vanilla syrup to save time.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of vanilla syrup used in the cream.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk and cream with plant-based alternatives, but results may vary.
