This classic homemade lemonade recipe is a refreshing and tangy drink made with fresh lemon juice and simple syrup. It’s perfectly balanced in sweetness and citrus flavor, ideal for hot days or any time you crave a cool, revitalizing beverage.

Ingredients

Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cold water

Lemonade

  • 5 cups cold water, divided
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from 6 to 8 lemons)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Make the Simple Syrup: Combine the sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  2. Mix the Lemonade: In a glass pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice, the remaining 4 cups of cold water, and the cooled simple syrup. Stir well to thoroughly blend the flavors. Add the thinly sliced lemon for garnish and extra zest. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator until ready to serve, and pour over ice cubes for best refreshment.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of sugar in the simple syrup to your taste.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding fresh mint leaves or a splash of sparkling water before serving.
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice yields the best flavor; avoid bottled lemon juice if possible.
  • This lemonade can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
