Delight in these frozen chocolate-covered bananas, a simple and fun treat perfect for warm days or anytime you crave a sweet, cool snack. Ripe bananas are sliced, frozen, and then dipped in melted chocolate with a hint of vegetable oil for smoothness, finished off with colorful sprinkles for added crunch and visual appeal.

Ingredients

Bananas

  • 4 ripe bananas

Chocolate Coating

  • 2 cups chocolate chips (milk, dark, or white)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Toppings

  • Assorted sprinkles

Tools

  • 8 popsicle sticks, lollipop sticks, or sturdy straws

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bananas: Line a baking sheet with wax paper for easy cleanup. Peel the bananas and slice each in half width-wise. Carefully insert a popsicle stick or sturdy straw into the bottom of each banana half to create a handle, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Freeze the bananas: Place the baking sheet with the banana halves into the freezer and allow them to freeze for 1 hour until firm and ready for dipping.
  3. Melt the chocolate: In a deep metal bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water, combine the chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Stir occasionally until the chocolate mixture is completely melted and smooth. Remove the bowl from heat and set aside.
  4. Dip the bananas: Remove the frozen bananas from the freezer. One at a time, dip each banana half into the melted chocolate, using a spoon to evenly coat all sides. Immediately sprinkle the coated banana with assorted sprinkles to decorate it. Place the chocolate-covered banana back on the wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  5. Freeze the coated bananas: After dipping and decorating all banana halves, return the baking sheet to the freezer and chill the bananas for at least 10 minutes or until the chocolate coating is firm.

Notes

  • The vegetable oil in the chocolate helps create a smooth and glossy coating that's easier to dip the bananas into.
  • Feel free to customize the sprinkles or omit them for a classic plain chocolate finish.
  • Use white, milk, or dark chocolate chips depending on your preference.
  • Ensure bananas are very ripe for best flavor and texture.
  • Frozen bananas can be stored in the freezer in an airtight container for up to a week.
