This Easy Pear Crisp is a delightful, comforting dessert combining tender, spiced pears with a crunchy oat and pecan topping. Ready in just 30 minutes, it's perfect for a quick treat that feels homemade and indulgent. Use seasonal pears or swap in apples or peaches for variations.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 3 ripe pears, sliced thin into bite-sized pieces (apples or peaches also work)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (or apple pie spice)
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt

Topping

  • ½ cup old fashioned oats
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (use gluten free if needed)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans (almonds or walnuts also work, or omit for nut free)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted (use non-dairy butter for a vegan crisp)

Optional

  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and coat an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced pears with brown sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Toss thoroughly to evenly coat the fruit with the mixture.
  3. Transfer Filling: Pour and spread the prepared fruit filling evenly into the greased baking dish.
  4. Make Topping: In a separate medium bowl, mix together oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, chopped pecans, and melted butter until the topping is evenly combined and crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle Topping: Evenly distribute the oat topping mixture over the pear filling in the baking dish.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the pears are tender and the topping is golden brown and crisp.
  7. Serve: Let the crisp cool slightly, then serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute unsalted butter with a non-dairy alternative and serve with vegan ice cream.
  • Gluten-free flour can be used to make this recipe gluten free.
  • Feel free to swap pears with apples or peaches depending on availability and preference.
  • To keep the crisp nut free, omit the chopped nuts or substitute with seeds like sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
  • Lemon juice helps prevent the pears from browning and adds a subtle tang.
