A delicious and easy Crock Pot Chicken Parmesan recipe featuring breaded, browned chicken breasts simmered in marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, served over spaghetti for a comforting Italian-style meal.

Ingredients

Sauce and Chicken

  • 25 ounce jar marinara sauce
  • 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (depending on slow cooker size)

Breading Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups Italian seasoned Panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

Wet Mixture

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper, about 1 teaspoon each (to taste)

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (more if preferred)
  • 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 package spaghetti (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Slow Cooker: Spray an oval 5-6 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray and pour in the jar of marinara sauce, spreading it evenly.
  2. Make Wet Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Make Breading Mixture: In another shallow bowl, combine the Italian seasoned Panko bread crumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil.
  4. Heat Oil and Brown Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. Dip each chicken breast first into the egg and milk mixture, then coat thoroughly in the bread crumb mixture.
  5. Brown Chicken: Place the breaded chicken breasts in the hot skillet. Brown each side well without over-flipping to ensure the breading adheres and gets a crispy, golden crust. Add more oil if necessary.
  6. Transfer to Slow Cooker: Once browned, place the chicken breasts on top of the marinara sauce in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Add Cheese: Approximately 10-15 minutes before serving, sprinkle shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over each chicken breast. Cover the slow cooker again to allow the cheese to melt.
  8. Prepare Spaghetti and Serve: While the cheese melts, cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Serve each cheesy chicken breast atop a bed of cooked spaghetti noodles with sauce.

Notes

  • Do not over-flip the chicken during browning to keep the breading intact and crispy.
  • Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
  • You can add more mozzarella cheese if you prefer a cheesier topping.
  • This recipe works best with boneless, skinless chicken breasts that fit comfortably in your slow cooker.
  • Using an oval 5-6 quart slow cooker is recommended for even cooking.
