This recipe details how to make the crispiest air fryer gnocchi using simple ingredients and quick cooking techniques. Whether using shelf-stable, refrigerated, or frozen gnocchi (including varieties like cauliflower or sweet potato), the gnocchi achieve a golden, crispy exterior with minimal oil and seasoning, perfect as a side dish, appetizer, or salad topping.

Ingredients

Gnocchi

  • 1 lb gnocchi (shelf-stable, refrigerated, or frozen; regular, cauliflower, or sweet potato)

Seasonings & Toppings

  • 1 - 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 - 3 tbsp freshly grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (approximately 200°C) and lightly grease the basket with olive oil spray to prevent sticking and promote even cooking.
  2. Toss Gnocchi with Seasonings: In a large mixing bowl, combine the gnocchi with extra-virgin olive oil, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and grated parmesan. For frozen gnocchi, do not thaw before using.
  3. Add to Air Fryer Basket: Transfer the seasoned gnocchi to the preheated air fryer basket, spreading them out in a single layer to avoid overlapping, which could reduce crispiness.
  4. Air Fry Shelf-Stable/Refrigerated Gnocchi: Cook at 390°F for 11 to 14 minutes. Shake the basket every 4 to 5 minutes to ensure even browning. The gnocchi are done when their outsides are golden and crispy but not burnt.
  5. Air Fry Frozen Gnocchi: Cook at 390°F for 13 to 16 minutes, shaking the basket every 4 to 5 minutes. Frozen gnocchi require slightly longer cooking but should also be golden and crispy on the outside when finished.
  6. Serve: Enjoy the crispy gnocchi immediately. Optionally, garnish with extra parmesan cheese and fresh parsley. Serve as a side dish, an appetizer with marinara or pesto dip, or use them as crunchy toppings on salads.

Notes

  • Do not thaw frozen gnocchi before air frying to preserve texture and prevent sogginess.
  • Ensure the gnocchi are spread out in a single layer for maximum crispiness.
  • Shaking the basket regularly during cooking helps achieve even golden color and texture.
  • You can customize the seasoning by adding herbs like rosemary or thyme for additional flavor.
  • Use olive oil spray for a lighter coating or drizzle extra-virgin olive oil for richer taste.
