This Creamy Parmesan Garlic Chicken recipe delivers tender, juicy chicken breasts smothered in a rich, garlicky parmesan cream sauce infused with Italian seasoning and optional fresh spinach. Ready in just 20 minutes, this easy skillet dish makes a perfect weeknight dinner served alongside pasta or veggies.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 small-medium chicken breasts (or 2 large, halved)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce

  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup light cream (or heavy cream)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning (or oregano)
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup spinach, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season and cook chicken: Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large heavy skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the chicken to the pan and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the outside is golden brown and the chicken is cooked through. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the chicken breasts.
  2. Prepare the sauce: Remove the cooked chicken from the pan and reduce heat to low-medium. Add minced garlic to the pan and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the light cream, then add Italian seasoning and grated parmesan cheese. Stir well to combine and melt the cheese into the sauce. If using spinach, stir in 1 cup of chopped spinach now. Let the sauce simmer gently for 2-3 minutes to thicken slightly.
  3. Combine and finish: Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet with the sauce. Simmer together for another minute to allow the chicken to soak up the flavors. Turn off the heat, spoon the creamy parmesan garlic sauce generously over the chicken, and serve warm with your choice of pasta or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Using heavy cream instead of light cream will make the sauce richer and thicker.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when cooking the chicken to ensure even browning.
  • Spinach is optional but adds a fresh, healthy touch to the dish.
  • You can substitute Italian seasoning with dried oregano or basil if needed.
  • For a lower-fat option, use a light cream or half-and-half and reduce olive oil slightly.
  • Make sure the chicken is cooked through but still juicy by not overcooking.
