Delightfully sweet and healthy Chocolate Coated Date Hearts made by filling medjool dates, coating them in rich melted chocolate, and topping with freeze-dried strawberries, sliced almonds, and flaky sea salt. This quick no-bake treat is perfect for a nutritious dessert or snack, ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Date Hearts

  • 6-8 Medjool dates

Chocolate Coating

  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed
  • 2-3 tbsp sliced almonds, finely chopped
  • Flaky sea salt, to top

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dates: Gently pull apart each Medjool date from the top, leaving them attached at the bottom. Remove the pits carefully and flatten the dates to form a heart shape.
  2. Set Up Coating Surface: Line a plate or a small pan with parchment paper to place the coated dates on afterward, ensuring easy removal and cleanup.
  3. Melt Chocolate: Combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  4. Dip the Dates: Using a fork, dip each date into the melted chocolate, coating it thoroughly. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before placing each coated date onto the parchment paper-lined plate.
  5. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the crushed freeze-dried strawberries, finely chopped sliced almonds, and a pinch of flaky sea salt over each chocolate-coated date immediately for added flavor and texture.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the prepared dates for 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate coating to harden properly.
  7. Store: Keep the chocolate coated date hearts refrigerated and consume within 3 weeks for optimal freshness and taste.

Notes

  • Use good quality Medjool dates for natural sweetness and softness.
  • Adjust the amount of toppings to personal preference or omit nuts to make it nut-free.
  • Be careful not to overheat the chocolate to avoid burning it in the microwave.
  • These treats are perfect for gifting – package them in a decorative box or jar.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
