Ingredients

Oats Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Almond Paste

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 cup flaked almonds
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Almond Paste: In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, almond flour, white sugar, egg, and almond extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth and set aside while you prepare the oat base.
  3. Prepare Oat Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together milk, egg, brown sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the rolled oats, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Assemble Oat Base: Pour the oat mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom to form a uniform layer.
  5. Add Almond Paste Layer: Dollop spoonfuls of the almond paste mixture over the oat base, then gently spread to evenly cover the surface.
  6. Top with Flaked Almonds: Sprinkle the flaked almonds evenly over the almond paste layer, ensuring good coverage for a crunchy topping.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 34 to 40 minutes until the center is set and the top turns a golden brown color.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.
  9. Storage: Serve immediately or allow to cool completely and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months for later enjoyment.

Notes

  • Ensure the baking dish is well greased to prevent sticking.
  • Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out mostly clean.
  • For extra moistness, consider adding a splash more milk if your oats absorb liquid quickly.
  • Flaked almonds add texture but can be omitted or substituted with chopped nuts if preferred.
  • Powdered sugar topping is optional but adds a lovely sweetness and presentation.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave or oven before serving.
